SRK is the lucky mascot
The name Shah Rukh means ‘face of the king’. Something which spells as magnanimous has royalty associated with it in every possible way. Every actor or director who has worked with SRK can’t stop raving about his tremendous energy levels and has only good things to say about the superstar. He has consistently maintained himself at the number one position in Bollywood over more than a decade now. But the SRK charisma is not just restricted till the actor. It extends to the people, places, companies and events he has been associated with.
ShahRukh Khan has been a lucky mascot for several entities and continues to be so. Anything that he touches turns into gold. We list down some testimonials to corroborate his Midas touch.
In a league of his own
Talking about the current craze that has hit the nation, the Indian Premier League (IPL), nothing is being spoken more than ShahRukh Khan. His presence at the cricket matches has gained more media limelight than the matches itself. In fact good friends like Arjun Rampal and Juhi Chawla too are basking in the glory of Shah Rukh’s fame.
The point to be noted here is that as soon as Shah Rukh entered into the field of cricket through his team Kokatta Knight Riders, cricket got completely redefined from just being a sport to being a new mode of entertainment and was positioned on an entirely new and high platform. Not that he made an attempt to do so but that’s where his Midas touch comes into picture. With his touch, cricket gained a new identity.
Tick 20
Last year the Indian cricket team saw the pits as well as the peak of their performance. In the world cup India had a miserable exit in the very start after losing out to a small country like Bangladesh. The much hyped team was ridiculed and laughed at.
And the same year saw the Indian cricket team win against all odds in the T-20 World Cup series were it emerged victorious despite strong opposition. Only this time ShahRukh Khan was present to cheer up the team in the stadium! Again he didn’t do anything but somehow with India’s victory in his presence, he was considered as a lucky mascot for the country.
The Raj of Yash
Yash Raj Films which was considered as the premium production banner of Bollywood till last year didn’t not enjoy a very encouraging 2007 business-wise. All their so-called premium products ranging from Ta Ra Rum Pum, Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, Laaga Chunari Mein Daag and Aaja Nachle were huge failures at the box-office. The only film that worked from the Yash Raj banner in 2007 was ShahRukh Khan’s Chak De India. This one can of course be credited to SRK’s superlative performance. ShahRukh Khan was the only saving grace for Yash Raj Films in 2007.
Even in 2008, the banner had a pathetic start with Tashan that was unanimously rejected by the audiences and critics. With the instant failure of Tashan, Yash Raj had to compromise on their revenue sharing model with the multiplexes. All their upcoming projects in 2008 including Bachna Ae Haseena, Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic and Roadside Romeo will work more in the favour of multiplexes than the producers. It’s only for the ShahRukh Khan film Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi that Yash Raj has managed to get in added revenues.
Shah Rukh, without a doubt, is the trump card of Yash Raj Films.
Pehli asar mein aisa jadu kar diya…
Actresses who have debuted with ShahRukh Khan have gained instant popularity. Be it Preity Zinta who danced to Jiya Jale with Shah Rukh in Dil Se or Deepika Padukone who was launched by SRK in Om Shanti Om, both have sky-rocketed to the top grade positions.
Debuting with ShahRukh Khan certainly has added advantage.
SRK ke saath bahut kuch hota hain
The top actresses of today have all made it big with ShahRukh Khan alongside them. Kajol debuted with a flop Bekhudi but it was with Baazigar that she made a great pair with ShahRukh Khan that still remains one of the top jodis in Bollywood today.
Rani Mukherjee started with films like Raja Ki Aayegi Baarat and gained recognition with Ghulam. But it was Kuch Kuch Hota Hai that put her in the league of top actresses. And from there till today, there’s no looking back for the actress.
ShahRukh Khan was the common factor in both cases and his Midas touch worked for both actresses.
Again directors who have debuted with ShahRukh Khan have established themselves as the top filmmakers of today. Aditya Chopra debuted with the blockbuster hit Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge which is still playing in a Mumbai theatre today. Karan Johar followed it with Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Farah Khan’s Main Hoon Na was a success story and so was Raj Kanwar’s Deewana when Shah Rukh was a nobody.
Anything that Shah Rukh touches turns gold.
What an item…!
Item numbers was classified as feminine gender till Shah Rukh climbed atop a train in Dil Se. Chhaiya Chhaiya was perhaps the first male item number and superhit too. He repeated the act with Ishq Kameena in Shakti – the Power, Kaal Dhamaal in Kaal and more recently with his Dard-e-Disco act in Om Shanti Om. And with that Shah Rukh changed the notion that male stars cannot be as successful in item numbers as their sizzling female counterparts
